Keep implants germ-free with these best practices
For many years now, Dr. Kami Hoss has been a dentist, business owner, and author, among other things. As such, he has amassed a wealth of knowledge which he shares through his series of blogs.
For this blog, Dr. Hoss gives important tips to people who’ve had dental implants installed, to help them keep the implants and teeth for that matter, germ-free and in perfect working order.
1. People should brush their teeth regularly.
Brushing one’s teeth thrice a day is required for everyone, especially people with dental implants. This cannot be emphasized enough. The simple act of brushing one’s teeth gets rid of a huge percentage of food, germs, and bacteria that could compromise implants.
2. People should never forget to floss.
While implants will never experience decay like teeth, they may get stained and dirty. This causes implants to change color and aggravate any existing conditions such as infections of the teeth. Brushing takes away a lot of the food, but flossing gets rid of the ones stuck in between teeth and implants.
3. People should see their dentist.
The wonderful thing about dental implants is that they can last decades. However, patients with implants still very much need to see their dentists, perhaps even more so than patients without implants. Dentists get to see the condition of the implants better than anyone else, and they know if everything is in good working order, Dr. Kami Hoss adds.
